Every year, McDonald’s Australia announces an amazing ambassador for McHappy Day and 2020 is no different.
Hollywood actress Eva Mendes has taken on the new role, and though COVID-19 restrictions mean she won’t be flying Down Under, the 2 Fast 2 Furious star be hosting virtual meet and greets with families in need.
“Although I can’t travel to Australia this year, I am really proud to be the 2020 Ambassador for McHappy Day,” Mendes, 46, shared in a statement. “As a mum, I couldn’t imagine being away from my children when they need me most, so I feel so honoured to be involved in such an important initiative.
“Aussies can get behind the McHappy fundraising efforts by heading to their local McDonald’s from the 21st of October and picking up a pair of Silly Socks, a Helping Hand or simply making a donation. And on Saturday 14th of November, McHappy Day, $2 from every Big Mac sold will also go to Ronald McDonald House Charities.”
McHappy Day is McDonald’s long-running annual fundraiser, which aims to keep families together while their sick or seriously injured child undergoes treatment in hospital.
As a mother herself, the campaign is important to Mendes, who shares two daughters with her actor husband Ryan Gosling: Esmeralda Amada Gosling, born in 2014, and Amada Lee Gosling, born in 2016.
Previous McHappy Day ambassadors have included Katie Holmes (2019), Naomi Watts (2018) and Ada Nicodemou (2017).
