‘Harley Quinn’ Is Getting A Spin-Off Series On HBO Max

Harley Quinn co-creator Patrick Schumacker revealed at SXSW a spin-off series is in development for HBO Max.

Harley Quinn was one of the shows that made it from DC Universe to HBO Max, and it has become one of the streamer’s first successes. This is why it should come as no surprise that HBO Max is now developing a spin-off series, which will follow fan-favorite Kite Man and other notable villains.

The upcoming Harley Quinn spin-off series for HBO Max will be titled Noonan’s, and co-creator Patrick Schumacker revealed the first details about the series at the Not Kidding Around: Warner Bros. Animation and the Reimagining of Iconic Characters for an Adult Audience SXSW panel:

“He [Kite Man] tries to run the bar by himself but it doesn’t turn out so easy. We have Harley and Ivy appear in the first episode, but after that we have with different goons and villains appearing every episode like Lex Luthor and Bane. It will be kind of like Cheers for supervillains.”

In addition to the spin-off series, Schumacker also shared that The Suicide Squad director James Gunn will appear in the upcoming season of HBO Max’s Harley Quinn series:

“He is playing himself, and is directing a movie about Thomas Wayne.”

Another fun detail Schumacker shared about Harley Quinn‘s third season was that there would also be an homage to Batman: The Animated Series:

“We have an episode that’s a big love letter to Batman: The Animated Series. We even got some original backgrounds from the show that we use in the episode.”

The animated HBO Max series features the voice talents of Kaley Cuoco as Dr. Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn, Lake Bell as Dr. Pamela Isley / Poison Ivy, Diedrich Bader as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Alan Tudyk as Joker, Ron Funches, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander, J. B. Smoove, Tony Hale as Dr. Edgar Cizko / Doctor Psycho, Christopher Meloni as Commissioner James Gordon, Rahul Kohli as Dr. Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow, Sanaa Lathan as Catwoman and Alfred Molina as Mr. Freeze.
